Announced by Polda Metro Jaya, the latest update on the tragic train accident in Bekasi reveals that 12 individuals are still receiving medical attention across various hospitals. Kombes Budi Hermanto, Kabid Humas Polda Metro Jaya, provided this information during a press briefing at the Polda Metro Jaya headquarters on Friday (8/5). “As of 7 May 2026 at 13.00 WIB, there are 12 patients under treatment in seven different hospitals,” he stated, emphasizing the ongoing efforts to stabilize the injured.

Details on the Victims’ Locations and Conditions

According to the police, the 12 remaining victims are distributed among several hospitals, including RSUD Kota Bekasi, which hosts five of them, RS Mitra Bekasi Timur, RS Primaya Bekasi Timur, and RSUD Kabupaten Bekasi. Others are being treated at RS MMC Kuningan Jakarta, Rumah Sakit Primaya Barat, and Rumah Sakit Eka Hospital Harapan Indah. Budi highlighted that the condition of the patients varies, with some showing signs of improvement while others require further observation. The police have also compiled 39 witness statements to piece together the sequence of events leading up to the collision.

Ongoing Investigation and Key Areas of Focus

Announced that the investigation into the accident is still in progress, the Polda Metro Jaya team is collaborating closely with Puslabfor Bareskrim Polri and the Komite Nasional Keselamatan Transportasi (KNKT) to analyze technical aspects. Budi mentioned that the inquiry is now prioritizing the evaluation of railway operations, vehicle maintenance, and the role of the taxi online that was involved. “We are examining the technical failures, the responsibility of the transport institutions, and the circumstances surrounding the taxi’s movement at the time of the incident,” he added, underscoring the thoroughness of the probe.

Announced during the briefing, the accident occurred on Monday (27/4) night when a taxi Green SM stalled on the railway tracks due to an electrical system malfunction. This disruption caused a chain reaction, leading to a collision between the KRL and the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek. The incident resulted in the derailment of the KRL, which had to stop urgently at Stasiun Bekasi Timur. Subsequently, the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek struck the stopped train from behind, causing severe damage and casualties.

Announced the toll of the disaster, a total of 16 people lost their lives, and 90 were injured. The majority of the victims were women, as the rear carriages of the KRL were heavily damaged. The police have since launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident and assign responsibility. “We are ensuring that all details are uncovered through the testimony of the 39 witnesses,” said Budi, while stressing the need for transparency in the findings.

Announced the coordination efforts, the police are working with transportation experts and local authorities to review safety protocols and identify any lapses. The KNKT team has already arrived at the scene to conduct an in-depth analysis, focusing on the technical and operational factors that contributed to the collision. “This collaboration is crucial to prevent similar incidents in the future,” Budi noted, highlighting the importance of learning from the tragedy.
